Here is some information that you will find helpful about Borough of Alburtis.
Please note that you may have an Alburtis address and not be a Borough of Alburtis resident.
Borough of Alburtis Municipal Building
The administrative offices of Borough of Alburtis are located in the Municipal
Building at 260 Franklin Street. Our mailing address is PO Box 435, Alburtis, PA 18011. The Borough Hall is
open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. with the exception of holidays. The telephone number for the
Borough Office is 610-966-4777. If you are calling after hours, please leave a message on our answering machine
and we will get back to you the next business day. Do not call the Borough Office to reach the Police Department.
If you have any paperwork you need to drop off after hours, there is a drop-off box located at each entrance to
the Borough Office. Please do not leave cash in the drop-off box.
Borough of Alburtis Police Department
The Police Department is located in the Municipal Building at 260 Franklin Street.
We are fortunate to have 24-hour coverage from our Police Department.

Do not call the Borough Hall for Police issues.
Alburtis Volunteer Fire Company
The Alburtis Volunteer Fire Company is located at 328 South Main Street. For
emergency calls, please dial 911. For non-emergencies, dial their station phone number at 610-966-3535. The fire
company consists of all volunteers. If you are interested in volunteering for a position such as clerical,
fundraising, firefighting or special fire police, please call their non-emergency phone number. They will be
happy to talk with you. The Alburtis Volunteer Fire Company holds fundraisers throughout the year. Please try to
attend some of these events. It's for a worthy cause!
Lockridge Park
Lockridge Park is owned and maintained by Lehigh County. To reserve the
pavilion, call 610-392-7482. Their website is www.lehighcounty.org.
Pool and Recreation Hall
The pool & recreation hall are owned and operated by the Alburtis Area
Community Center, a non-profit organization. Please call 610-966-2954 with questions concerning the pool or
the recreation hall.
Library
Borough of Alburtis residents may use the Lower Macungie Library. The library
is located at 3450 Brookside Road, Macungie, PA 18062. Their phone number is 610-966-6864. This service is free
to Borough of Alburtis residents.
Cable, Phone and Electric Services
Service Electric is the cable provider for the Borough of Alburtis and their
telephone number is 610-865-9100 or toll free 800-232-9100. Verizon provides local phone service and their
telephone number is 1-800-479-1919. PPL provides electric service and their telephone number is 484-634-4900
or toll free 1-800-342-5775.
Borough Council Meetings
Borough Council meetings are held on the second and last Wednesday of each
month at 7:00 p.m. All residents are invited to attend.
Ordinances
Borough of Alburtis has many ordinances for the safety and welfare of the
residents. You may come into Borough Hall any time during business hours to look at the ordinance book.
House Numbers
Please label the front of your residence with your property street address/house
number. In case of emergency, Police, Firefighters and Ambulance Drivers will be able to locate your house more
efficiently.
Permits and PA One Call System
If you plan on improving your property (fence, shed, deck, swimming pool, sign,
ramp, major construction, sidewalk/curb, interior alterations or anything similar), you must obtain a zoning
permit from the Borough Hall before work begins. The process takes approximately 2 weeks. When a building permit
is obtained, you will be notified of the number of required inspections, if any. Inspections must be called in
with 48-hour notice. The Zoning Officer has hours on Wednesdays from 4:15 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. Please call our
office for more specific details and questions. If you are doing any digging on your property, please have
whoever is doing the digging, i.e.: the contractor, sub-contractor or yourself, call Pennsylvania One Call System
at 1-800-242-1776, so that underground facilities owners can be notified to mark any underground sewer, water,
gas or electric lines. There is no cost to the property owner for the service. If you do not call and you damage
any utility lines, you will be responsible for the entire cost of the repair of that particular line. Notice
required is at least 3 working days, but not more than 10 working days prior to actual excavation. Don't forget
to call - it's the law!
Trees and grass/weeds
Tree limbs cannot interfere with road signs, the area above sidewalks or extend over
the roadway. Tree limbs should be cut above six feet in height or higher. Grass/weeds should not be taller than
12 inches.
Borough, School, and County Real Estate Tax Bills
Borough and County real estate tax bills are mailed the end of March of each year and the
School real estate tax bills are mailed the end of June. Due dates are clearly marked on the bills.
Per Capita Tax Bills
Per capita tax bills are mailed before February 1st each year. New residents will
receive bills as they move into the Borough. The due dates are noted on the bill. This is a $10.00 tax due from
every resident of the Borough 18 years of age and older. Per capita tax is collected at the Borough Hall.
Earned Income Taxes
Earned Income Tax forms are mailed each January for the previous year income. If your
employer does not withhold this tax, you must make quarterly payments. Please call the Earned Income Tax Officer
at 610-966-4777 to receive quarterly payment forms. The tax rate is 1% of gross wages and net profits. If you
have any questions please call the Earned Income Tax Officer.
Water, Sewer and Garbage Bill Due Dates
Our water, sewer and garbage bills are mailed out 4 times a year. A 15% penalty for
late payment will be added to late payments. Below is a list of mailing and due dates.
Mailed on or before January 1 - Due by January 31
Mailed on or before April 1 - Due by April 30
Mailed on or before July 1 - Due by July 31
Mailed on or before October 1 - Due by October 31
Water
The source of our water comes from four wells. If you have an emergency with your
water (example- water leak or you discover a water main break), you will need to contact 610-966-4777 during
office hours Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, except holidays. After office hours, please contact the
non-emergency phone number for the Police Department (610-437-5252). The Officer on duty will notify our
Maintenance Department.
General Information Concerning Collection of Refuse
Collection Days/Delays
Collection of refuse is scheduled for Tuesdays and Fridays between 5:00 am and
2:00 pm. Below is a list of delays:
Week of January 2, 2006 NO DELAYS
Week of May 29th - Both trash days delayed 1 day
Week of July 3rd - Both trash days delayed 1 day
Week of Sept 4th - Both trash days delayed 1 day
Week of Nov 20th - 2nd pickup day delayed 1 day
Week of Dec 25th - Both pickup days delayed 1 day
Construction and Demolition Material
Construction and demolition material must either (a) be placed in a regular garbage
bag or can; (b) be tied in a bundle not exceeding 4 feet in length, 2 feet in width, and 2 feet in height and not
exceeding 60 pounds; or (c)constitute a riff-raff item.
Refrigerators, Air Conditioners and Items Containing Freon
If you need to dispose of a refrigerator, air conditioner or any other items
containing Freon, a certified technician must remove the Freon. The certified technician must place a sticker
on the refrigerator, air conditioner or item to show that the Freon has been removed. Without the sticker from
the certified technician, the trash contractor will not collect the refrigerator, air conditioner or item. Also,
doors must be removed from all refrigerators that are outside.
Yard Waste
Borough of Alburtis residents may use the dumpsters on W. Penn Avenue. Please read
the signs to determine the appropriate dumpster to place the leaves/ branches or grass. Do not place any plastic
bags into the dumpster. Cameras are located at the dumpster site. If a person is not physically able to place
his or her leaves, branches or grass into the dumpsters, please contact the Borough Office for assistance. The
request must be submitted in writing and the resident must have the yard waste bundled.
Unacceptable Waste
Except for trace amounts normally found in household or commercial waste, the
following is unacceptable waste:
Hazardous waste, residual waste or special handling waste
Infectious or chemotherapeutic waste, or any wearing apparel, bedding or refuse from premises where highly infectious or contagious diseases have prevailed
Used motor oil, used lead acid batteries, leaf waste, newsprint or household hazardous waste
Free liquids, or liquids which are likely to be released from their containers during ordinary handling
Any highly flammable or explosive materials
Any material that, by reason of its composition, characteristics, quantity, or concentration, is ineligible for disposal at the disposal facility selected by the Borough and/or the Contractor in accordance with the refuse contract.
Household Hazardous Waste Materials

questions concerning disposal of household hazardous waste materials.
